A Special Election for the City of Harpers Ferry will be held on Tuesday, September 13, 2022. Polls will open at 7:00 AM & close at 8:00 PM.

BALLOT LANGUAGE:

Public Measure AM: 

Shall the City of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, be authorized to impose a hotel and motel tax at the rate of seven percent (7%), effective January 1, 2023, with at least fifty percent (50%) of the revenues derived from the tax to be used for park and recreation programs and facilities for the City of Harpers Ferry? 


POLLING SITES for the Special Election will be in the following location:

Harpers Ferry Comm Center

City of Harpers Ferry: All voters residing in the city limits of Harpers Ferry.


ACCESSIBILITY:

All polling places designated for use in this election are accessible to persons with disabilities.

Any voter who is physically unable to enter a polling place has the right to vote in the voter’s vehicle. For further information, please contact the county Auditor’s office at dbeyer@co.allamakee.ia.us or (563)568-3522. For TTY access, dial 711 + (563)568-3522.


VOTER ID: Pre-registered voters are required to provide an approved form of identification at the polling place before receiving and casting a regular ballot. Voters who are not pre-registered – such as voters registering to vote on election day – and voters changing precincts must also provide proof of residence. A voter who is unable to provide an approved form of identification (or prove residence if required) 1) may have the voter’s identity/residence attested to by another registered voter in the precinct who has an approved form of identification, 2) prove identity and residence using Election Day Registration documents, or 3) cast a provisional ballot and provide proof of identity/residence at the county auditor’s office by  12:00 pm (Noon) on Monday, September 19. Attesters must provide an approved form of identification.

ABSENTEE VOTING: In person absentee voting is available at the Allamakee County Auditor’s Office beginning Wednesday, August 24 thru 4:00 pm on Monday, September 12, 2022. Regular office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Auditor’s office is closed on Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day.

To request an absentee ballot by mail, use the official form available at the Allamakee County Auditor’s Office, or https://allamakeecountyelections.iowa.gov/vote/absentee/ or at sos.iowa.gov. Completed forms should be mailed or brought to Allamakee County Commissioner of Elections, 110 Allamakee St, Waukon, IA 52172.

The last day to request an absentee ballot be mailed is Friday, September 2, 2022.


PRE-REGISTRATION DEADLINE: The deadline to pre-register for this election is Friday, September 2, 2022. If not pre-registered, eligible persons have the right to register to vote and cast a ballot on Election Day, if they are able to provide proof of both their identity and residency at the polls. See VOTER ID section.

PUBLIC TEST: The general public is invited to a Public Test of the Unisyn Voting System to show how the votes will be counted for the election. The demonstration will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, on the 4th floor of the Allamakee County Courthouse, 110 Allamakee St, Waukon, IA.
